First Time User – Microsoft 365 Email and Cloud

Introduction

Below there are six sets of instructions and videos to help you set up your church email on your preferred device and application. Most importantly, whatever you do, you should set up your new email address in Outlook for the web as described in section (1) below. And then choose whichever of the sections apply to you depending on your preferred device(s) and application(s).

(1) Setting up church email in Outlook for the web

Summary instructions

  • DO THIS FIRST BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE, and it’s best done on a laptop or PC
  • Go to: outlook.office.com
  • Enter your username and temporary password.
  • You will be prompted to change your password.
  • Once logged in, you can access your email, calendar, and other Office 365 applications.

(2) Setting up church email in Outlook desktop application

Summary instructions

  • Open Outlook.
  • Enter your email address and click “Connect”.
  • Enter your new password.
  • Follow any prompts to configure your account.

(3) Setting up church email on iPhone with standard iPhone app

Summary instructions

  • Go to “Settings” > “Accounts” > “Mail Accounts”.
  • Select “Microsoft Exchange”.
  • Enter your email address and a description (e.g., “Tryst Church Email”).
  • Click “Next”.
  • Enter your new password.
  • Follow any prompts to select which items you want to sync (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, etc.).

(4) Setting up church email on phone with Outlook mobile app

Summary instructions

  • Open the Outlook app.
  • Enter your email address and tap “Add Account”.
  • Enter your new password.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

(5) Setting up church email on phone with Gmail app

Summary instructions

  • Open the Gmail app.
  • Tap your profile picture and then “Add another account”.
  • Select “Exchange and Office 365”.
  • Enter your email address and new password.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

(6) Setting up church email on laptop or desktop PC using a differernt email program (e.g. Thunderbird)

Summary instructions

  • Open Thunderbird.
  • Go to “Account Settings” > “Account Actions” > “Add Mail Account”.
  • Enter your name, email address, and new password.
  • Click “Continue”.
  • Click “Enter manually”.
  • Make sure the settings are as follows:
    • Incoming Server: outlook.office365.com, port 993, SSL/TLS, Authentication method: Oauth2.
    • Outgoing Server: smtp.office365.com, port 587, STARTTLS, Authentication method: Oauth2.
  • Click “Retest”.
  • Click “Done”.
